Behind the Lens

I’m Steven van Horick, a 26-year-old photographer with a passion for fine-art and street photography.

My work explores the abstract nuances of everyday scenes, transforming the ordinary into visually striking compositions. While this style of photography can be hard to define in words, the essence of it is clearly reflected in the images I create. I work in both color and black-and-white, each offering a unique perspective on the world around us.

Whether through vibrant color or sharp monochrome, my work aims to tell a story—one where the everyday becomes extraordinary, and where each frame invites you to see the world from a new perspective.

Color

In my color photography, I focus on strong, vibrant colors that work together to create balanced and pleasing compositions. I capture abstract details within everyday scenes, using mostly longer focal lengths.

With a keen eye for abstract elements within larger scenes, I capture the unnoticed details that often go overlooked. To achieve this, I prefer a slightly zoomed-in approach, using lenses like the Fujifilm XF 35mm F2 or the XF 27mm F2.8 to craft these focused, colorful narratives.

Black & White

On the other hand, my black-and-white photography is all about geometry and leading lines. I love working with wide-angle lenses, particularly my Fuji XF 16mm F2.8, which allows me to emphasize structure and form, even in the smallest of subjects. By focusing on the interplay between shapes and spaces, I can create compelling visual pathways that draw the viewer into the heart of the image.
